Résumé

Chiara Margarita Cozzolani (b. 1602 – c. 1677) stands as one of the most prolific convent composers of Seventeenths Century Milan. While little is known of her training, Cozzolani’s quality indicates a fine education. Between 1640 and 1650, Cozzolani published four collections of motets, the first of which is now lost. She spent her life at the prestigious Santa Radegonda, the leading convent of Milan.“Ave Regina Caelorum”, a Marian antiphon, was customarily sung as a devotion following one of the hours of the divine office. As a processional antiphon, it exudes joy and confidence in Mary as an intercessor of the Catholic faith. This beautiful work is sophisticated and accessible – and a perfect vehicle for introducing this important musical period to your treble choir.
